Summer will be here before you know it and I don’t know about you, but summer always means houseguests.   There’s never a shortage of friends and family wanting to come and visit…not sure if it’s because we’re such great hosts or because we live in Los Angeles, a big tourist destination.  Either way, cleaning the house for guests never comes anywhere close on my top ten list of things to do, but it has to be done.

I look at cleaning like a sport and have to visualize my plan of attack; with a kid and a puppy in the house, it’s best to play offense.  I try to keep things organized enough (lots of bins and cubbies) to prevent messes from happening and of course, that’s impossible! So I try to keep enough products on hand to make the cleanup painless and convenient.  I find that my best friends are the multi-surface wipes with bleach and air freshener. I keep the wipes in the bathroom and in the kitchen to wipe up spills, clean the mirrors, faucets, etc.

We have a new puppy and as you probably guessed, housetraining can be a process. Trying to keep the house smelling fresh is a must because no one wants to be surrounded by a doggy smell all day, every day. Bleh!

I like to use scented candles and incense but not everyday. Sometimes they can be a little overpowering and the ash from the incense can be annoying. When I want to keep the house smelling fresh, in addition to opening windows, I like to use air fresheners that neutralize odors. Usually I’ll spray it in the garbage can and around the puppy area. I also like to use scented carpet cleaner and leave it on the carpet for a little while.

To give the house a cleaner scent, I love using eucalyptus leaves. I buy a bunch of dried leaves and put them in vases around the house. I also put a few drops of eucalyptus oil in a cup of hot water, it’s a touch stronger but it’s great because my daughter has asthma and the eucalyptus helps.

Typically, I like to break the house up into quadrants and focus on one area a day for deep cleaning (if I have a more discerning guest, read: mom’s coming to town) and for everyday maintenance, I’ll do spot cleaning and employ a clean-as-I-go method. A game plan for me might be on one day to scrub the bathroom floors and on the next day, clean out the fridge.

I also love to take shortcuts wherever I can. I have a small kitchen, and I find it faster and easier to use the hose on the vacuum to clean the kitchen floor. It just seems to be more effective in reaching those cracks and crannies than sweeping. In between mopping the floor, I use those handy multipurpose wipes for quick pick me ups.

  1. Cleaning the carpet in your residence can be a cumbersome job and could consider some time to get done. There are a good deal of items that require to be done, like relocating the furniture, finding the right cleaning answer, and many others. It would be best to timetable it on dates when you have a long weekend or for the duration of spring cleaning, as lengthy as the moments function for you. Proper arranging also enables you to be a lot more productive in cleaning. You can take help form carpet cleaning Carlsbad.
