Live in LA and looking for a staycation? There are plenty of attractions to choose from, from the desert to the beach and al the amusement parks in between.
We decided to escape the city for a day and head south. I booked a room at the Grand Pacific Palisades in Carlsbad through hotels.com for $129 (which included the $12/per day resort fee). Check out the video of our room:
I chose the Grand Pacific because it was in walking distance to Legoland (we used a KFC promo with a free kid’s ticket with purchase of adult ticket. Enter 70028 into online discount code section). It’s not exactly on the grounds but across the street and a short walk – less than 10 minutes. If you don’t feel like walking, they have a free shuttle. Self-parking is also free, valet is $14.
There was no mini-fridge or microwave in our room, bummer! We like our snacks. For dinner, we ordered room service from the restaurant on the grounds, Karl Strauss Brewery. It took them FOREVER to bring our food and we were starving too. Because it took them so long, they gave us the meal on the house, so that immediately erased all the pissy feelings and hunger pains.
The staff were incredibly nice, I mean, everyone from the front desk to the bell boys. The property is a timeshare, so not only were there a bunch of tours going on but there were different activities scheduled through out the week.
There’s an adult pool and a kids’ pool with a mini-water park set up. The adult pool was nice and warm, the kids’ pool, not so much.
All in all, it was a great value for the money and we enjoyed our stay.
