That’s a different post for a different day though.

This post is to let you know about a really cool event happening for parents of daughters. Check it out:

Tech Savvy: Preparing Girls for the Future with STEM

“If we’re going to out-innovate and out-educate the rest of the world, we’ve got to open doors for everyone. We need all hands on deck, and that means clearing hurdles for women and girls as they navigate careers in (STEM) science, technology, engineering, and math.”

- First Lady Michelle Obama

Today’s girls at risk of losing out on tomorrow’s opportunities. Find out why there’s still a gender gap in STEM — Science, Technology, Engineering and Math — and how you can give your kids the skills they need to succeed. For anyone interested in youth development.

It’s free for the iPhone, didn’t see one available for the iPad. It’s a proprietary time-lapse technology specifically for this app, which turns daily photos into videos that document growth over time.

Whether showcasing a baby’s first 365 days or an expecting mother’s blossoming baby bump all in 30 seconds or less, users simply take iPhone photos of the subject as often as desired utilizing an on-screen grid to help standardize photo positioning and then create a movie with just one tap.

I would imagine we could also use this app for the teen years to show our progression of grey hairs as our kids put us through the ringer. Then we could really have proof when we say they have aged us! I’m thinking about using it for Maltese after he gets a hair cut so we can track how fast his hairs grows. As you can see, the possibilities are endless.

It seems every year, I get caught out there in a huge traffic cluster funk because of some marathon/parade/random public holiday. So this year, I’m going to help me and you and give you the link to the street closures for the LA Marathon on Sunday, March 18th.

Closures will begin along the entire course prior to the race start, occurring on a rolling basis. All route roads will be closed by 6:00am. The races begin at 7:00am, and streets will reopen on
a rolling basis shortly after the last participant has passed. Plan accordingly!

Along with Got Milk’s latest campaign with Salma Hayek, they’ve also created a fabu site with everything you wanted to know and more about breakfast. It’s aptly called The Breakfast Project.

Salma Hayek along with celeb chef Ellie Krieger were on hand to debut the new commercials as well as the

Ellie Krieger & Salma Hayek

Did you know that one cup of milk has as much protein as an egg? Me neither. Now I won’t feel so bad if at the very least, my child gets a cup a milk on her way out the door in the mornings.

The Breakfast Project has plenty of helpful tips to jumpstart your mornings. Salma Hayek offers a few of her own including how she keeps a variety of cereal on hand so her daughter won’t get bored.

There are also recipes. Ellie’s breakfast cookies look yummy and seem like the perfect on-the-go food. So check out the site and see how much better your mornings can be.

Parents, you have to do your research for your child actor! There is more than enough information out there to steer you in the right direction and away from any scams. Simple but true, if it sounds too good (and too easy) to be true, it usually is. Check out this story in the LA Times:

Rachel Prieur and her brother Ryan were captivated by a radio commercial flooding the airwaves in Dallas. It offered children a shot at stardom — maybe even a part on a Disney show — and all they had to do was show up for an audition.

The teenagers begged their parents to take them. Crammed into a hotel ballroom with 200 other children, they took turns reading short monologues in front of a judge.

Malcolm Gladwell’s 10,000 hours rule applies to many things…but sadly, not parenting. Just as you get comfortable with your the quirks and habits of your little mini-me, the tween/teen years hit and BAM! It’s like starting all over again. You go from this:

To this, in what seems over night (I’m guessing because not only have I not experienced this transformation with my child but even if I did, I have been sternly forbidden not to write anything about said child online). Tweens, got to love ‘em.
